I have a 94 Country for my DD. I recently bought a 90 limited. I recently found out I am going to have to replace the engine (manifold and possible bearings out) It runs but makes clicking noises. The part that worries me is the floor board on the passenger side is gone. I have 800 invested in the vehicle now. Is it worth it to keep going or stop and sell the 90 cherokee limited and get something different. The jeep was painted 2 years ago and the body is in great shape.

Question: How important are the floor boards for support to the frame? A coworker said they are extreamly important and are needed to keep the "unibody" frame together and to hold things together. Another coworker said the floor boards are only to support the people sitting/standing on them and not needed for frame support. Any info on the rusted floor boards or recomendations on what to do. Changing out the engine doesn't bother me. I am just not wanting to completly rebuild the jeep.

 

yeah the floor boards are needed to help with the unibody but unless the whole floor is gone you wont notice much just do it when you can and do it right don't just slap a piece over it and call it a day oh and welcome from socal

Welcome from Tenn.! Save it and fix it right. Get the corresponding parts from a donor car and have them welded in. Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time!!!

I've seen far worse floors redone and you couldn't tell they had ever been rotted. Weld in some plate and line the whole thing with herc and you'll be good.
