What's going on, folks?
I joined this forum because I have been researching a lot about my next vehicle purchase. I was looking at new sedans almost exclusively until I realized that the vehicles just aren't worth the money, I need something that can get around a little better than a sedan, and that no one makes a cheap, relatively reliable, simple product anymore.
I work on the railroad for a living, and the railroad doesn't really stop for much. Actually, life in general doesn't really stop for much, and I want a vehicle that doesn't stop for much, either. If/when it does stop I want to be able to fix it myself.
So that landed me in the market for an XJ; a cheap, relatively reliable, and relatively simple 4 wheel drive vehicle.
So that is my story. I hope this community will prove helpful, and hopefully I will prove helpful to this community. I'm not much of a gear head, but I love to take stuff apart and put stuff together.
I also wouldn't mind any suggestions as to any other vehicle that might fit my needs, or any particular XJ years that are better/worse for my needs.

Idea go with a newer (98/99) XJ as the interior is nicer and they have a bit more power. Look for one with the skid plates/tow package if you can. Welcome to CherokeeForum!
