New to the forum, I'm taking over a 91 Cherokee (4.0L HO, AW4 Auto, NP242 TCase, Dana 30/35 F/R) from my fiancee as she is getting a newer car. Been working on cars most of my life and I wanna turn this into a capable trail rig but still be able to drive it to work daily.

Plans for it ultimately are most likely 4.5" LA kit with 33-35's, upgrade front and rear axles to Dana 44 with lockers, and stiffen up the unirails. Various other standard off roading parts and pieces, no need to list everythng right now.

My main concern is getting it fully road worthy (before I start wrenching on it) as it has a few issues right now, runs good drives fine, has a strange vibration/clattering coming from somewhere in or near the drivetrain, only happens at idle mostly in drive. I've checked the Cat already and it seems intact, as well as the driveline components, nothing is loose. Also the idle is super low, like below 500 and it feels like its gonna stall at every stop light. Suggestions and comments appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Have you checked out our OEM tech section yet? Great info in there with lots of members more than willing to help.

What kind of Dana 44 axles are u hoping to swap in the jeep?

Haven't decided yet, either junkyard it from a TJ or YJ and make it fit, or just buy ready built ones with lockers already installed.

First thing is to track down this annoying rattle and silence it with judicious application of force or brains, whichever works.

YJ doesn't have d44's as far as I can recall.

TJ rubicon 44's aren't that great You would need to weld on stuff on rear 44.

I have a '85 grand wagoneer Dana 44's on my jeep.

And this is why I joined the Cherokee forum, people who know more than me, sounds like you know your stuff from looking at your Black Phoenix build thread.

Ya so far so good, I've already fixed a couple issues just by searching the forum. Still trying to track down a tear down of the power seats that I can go off of to figure out why the motor is seizing up on my passenger seat, when I try to move it backward and figure out my low/rough idle when its hot outside.

I still need to get some pics up.....
