New to the Jeep world
I've always been a Chevy guy, straight axled a 92 Z71 silverado in highschool and previously had a 2001 Z71 Silverado that was my pride and joy until I lost my job.
Sorry for the off-sized pictures, theyre from my old photobucket from forever ago.
Previous truck
Also have always had project cars on the side..mainly e30 BMWs...
And then years, lost great job, and a DUI later (do NOT drink and drive kids, it'll cost you A LOT of money and grief), I come to buying a 1998 XJ, automatic 4x4, 227k for $900. The first week I had it, I replaced $300 worth of small parts and now everything is in working condition. I will post pictures tomorrow. Glad to find a forum strickly dedicated to the beautiful square-bodied jeep.

Few basic pictures:
It's a great starting platform, it took me a while to find this interior with a black exterior, and 4x4. It isn't pretty right now, but it only has two rust spots on the body that need attention and then I'm going to re-spray the whole vehicle. I've sprayed three boats in the past 2 years that came out near professional looking using a 2-part polyurethane. I'm guessing a single stage acrylic enamel wouldn't be too difficult to spray.
As for the interior, everything electronically works (surprised me) and there isn't any really bad damage/rips/tears besides the headliner needing replaced.
Mechanically the only thing that is giving me grief is what I believe to be a gummed up neutral safety switch (intermittent starting).
I plan on just a basic lift of 3" max, 31" tires, roof rack (for usability picking up stuff from home depot and whatnot), and probably just other basic aesthetically pleasing modifications as this is my daily driver and there isn't really anywhere in St. Petersburg to take it off the asphalt.
All in all, not a bad way to spend $900.00
