New to the Jeep scene..
Hey all,
I've been into Rangers for quite a while (owned and a build a couple fun wheelers). I've since sold my last one to start on a Bronco II, but then I saw a Comanche for sale on craigslist.
It's an 1989 Jeep MJ, 4.0L, 5 speed, 260K miles, new clutch and slave, recent tuneup. Guy is asking $1000. He said he just had a compression test done on all of the cylinders and they're all up to spec.
I guess I'm just wondering what this Jeep craze is all about. I have a friend who has owned several XJ's and he swears by them. Are they as good of a rig as some say? I know the 4.0's can run forever and a day, but that Peugot (sp?) tranny leaves a lot to be desired. Also, 92+ came with the HO 4.0?

I have the peugot 5spd in my 88 XJ it's gotten 20 years and 189k out of it and the bells and whistles have been ringing in it for the past month.
Today ripping it out and putting the AX15 in with the external slave.
Good upgrade if you ever wanna consider when the time comes.
Good luck with your renix MJ I been keeping a eye out for one to.

Two happiest days of my life... The day my first Ranger arrived at my house...
And the day the last one left forever...
I wheeled and raced Rangers... Never been so happy as now when I have Jeeps.
Its really nice to not need to worry about exactly which sub-sub-sub model and trim level you have let alone what dealer installed crap is on your truck to go get parts.
In the Jeep world.. a Dana 35 is a rear axle not a front....
On an 89... It might have a Peugeot... it might not. 89 was the cross over.

91 is the first year that the Chrysler-ized engine and electronics debuted.(HO).
Renix is easy to work on.. and dirt simple to maintain. It will last for nearly ever and can be completely diagnosed with a multi-meter and a bit of time.
