Default New here and Just got an XJ

A few days ago I got a 96 XJ 4x4, 4.0 5spd. I have to say I have completly enjoyed it so far. I got this for two purposes. First, it's paid off so I can start saving some cash instead of putting it in bankers hands. Secondly I wanted a capable 4x4 I feel comfortable working on. My last 4x4 was an 04 Ram 1500 with the 5.7. I loved the truck but incase you didn't know, and i doubt it, but EVERYTHING for that damn truck is expensive to fix/work on/replace. I have good mechanical skills that i picked up along the last 13 years. Well so far all I have noticed that needs to be fixed are minor. The gage cluster lights need to be replaced so I can see how fast im going at night, and there's a knock in the rear passenger suspension. Gave a quick look today and nothing looks/feels loose. But i was short on time, I plan to take the wheel off this weekend and get to the bottom of this. Probably just a tired shock. The Jeep does have 196k on the clock, and still runnin strong. The straight six hasn't dissapointed so far. I'm sure I'll be hitting you experienced jeep guys up soon for help. I swear I get better info from forums on my motorcycle and when i had my Ram than anywhere else. Thanks.

Brian

My Dad has an 04 dodge ram 2500 diesel and can't stand it. Expensive and had to replace quite a few things. And it gets terrible mileage for a diesel.
Glad you joined the Cherokee forum, welcome.

This forum is pretty awesome man. Unless you break a rule, 95% of the time you will get good answers from good people. I enjoy it much more than the others I have been apart of. Welcome! What are your future plans?

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, I pull horses with my GMC Sierra, but ill be getting a 2500 down the road. Most likly a GM. As far as the Jeep, first thing is getting it up to par on maintanence. I have no idea when all the fluids were flushed or the oil was even changed. After the basics I need to get in and fix some sincro issues(nothing serious, but little tougher to get into 2nd and 4th than all other gears. Jeep looks great and seems to be in good mechanical condition. So I "think" someone took good care of it but you never know. Long term i want to lift it, and make it a reliable trail rig. Probably do a winch bumper combo, definatly upgrade the lighting, probably some 33" BFG mud terrains in the future. I tend to over do my vehicles because i take things appart or fix/replace things when i get bored. And seeing as how it's getting to be in the rainy season out here by Seattlle, my boredome level is about to go up. lol Not able to ride my Busa as much, so I want to get it ready for Tahuya state park.
