Hello I recently just bought a 1995 Cherokee sport 4x4 with 245k. This is my first Cherokee and i bought the car for a daily. Car runs great has its share of rust and rattles but that's to be expected at 245k. I do have a question though have any of you experienced the rear hatch rattle/loose? It closes fine and locks but its violently shakes and bangs on bumpy roads.
Well here's the jeep:
And here is a picture to better explain the part I'm talking about, the previous owner put some tape to fatten up the striker plate to hold it in place.

I would spray some Rust-o-lem Rust Reformer instantly converts rust to a non-rusting surface. Then spray a metallic of chrome paint to resurface. If not that then buy a new lock/hatch assembly from JY...

Thanks, I will check to see if I have those two rubber stops, because I had the same problem and while it has stopped significantly, sometimes I hear it, though be it rather faint.

I just stepped out to my jeep and saw the rubber stop on the door (mid-way on the door) so those two are there. But found that there are two more on the frame; check out the pic and where is circled in red.

Welcome to CF.
The rubber bumpers can be turned out a little to see if that helps.
The striker can be moved towards the font of the vehicle a small amount to eliminate this, but you have to remove the rear bumper to access the bolts.

well the bump stops are pretty rusted out and cannot be turned, I'm gonna get under the car tomorrow and attempt to move the striker plate towards the front of the car like mentioned. Hopefully that helps the rattling can get very violent and annoying.

Jericho checking in...Congrats and welcome to the forum, unfortunately there are no real trails on the island that I know of. I only know of trails being Upstate...But anyway like I said welcome and I have learned alot and shared alot here...I found that 99% of the people are positive and want to be helpful (must not be from New York hehe) - Rob
