Default New guy Down South...Loganville GA

Well...first off this will be my first Jeep and i have no clue what i'm doing. i come from the mustang family....had to sell my '06 to save for school.

I'm now in the market for a Jeep but i can't decide what to go with. XJ or ZJ/WJ?
My biggest concerns are which of the two is more trail-ready in it's stock form and which is cheaper to build?
I'm a huge fan of V8 power but with fuel prices and the fact that the 4.0 is virtually bomb-proof, i'm leaning towards it.

Any input appreciated...TIA

Oh yeah...the name's Kenneth

Hey Kenneth, Dan here. I'm biased towards both the ZJ w/5.2L V8 and the WJ w/4.7L V8. I've had no engine trouble from either of mine.

Welcome to the forums

I have a WJ with the 4.0... So far its been good and gets anywhere from 21-22.5 mpg... Its nothing compared to a V8 though...

But its good for me... I only haul about 2000lbs at most...

There are more parts for modifying the older Cherokees, XJ ZJ, than the newer ones, WJs.
Determine what kind of offroading you want to do, how much of the work are you able to do on your own, how much money you have to spend. Look around on the many offroad sites and see what others have.
