Hi everyone, just bought my first jeep Cherokee today! It's an 86 Cherokee wagoneer. Has the 2.8 v6. Very clean jeep, 160000 miles or so. The bad, it has a rattle in the bottom end that needs some fixin. Wheres the best deal on engine kits for these things? I plan on doing the rebuild myself, just lookin for a decent deal on parts. Thanks

Well, I found a re-ring kit for $130 at my local parts store. That's all bearings, gaskets, rings, and whatever else. Unless it needs pistons, or the block needs bored I will probably just stick with this engine. I gave $500 for it, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to put a little money back into it. What are these things worth? I don't know much at all about jeeps, so I need to do some reading!

the v6's are considered crappy motors, but every now and then u can find a good one,but if u take care of it and use good quality parts it would be fine, and $500 for that xj is a very good deal,it looks real clean, and after a month readin this forum,u will learn so much

For what i have in it, probably rebuild it, see what happens. It made it 160000 miles the first run! I bought it from the original owner also, the bad thing, it had pennzoil ran in it it's whole life. Suprised it made it that long! Hahaha!
