New Guy
Greetings from the new guy in Georgia.
Actually I’m not really new, I’ve been lurking for quite a while doing research. And after a lot of researching, searching and saving I finally purchased the 1991 Cherokee Laredo pictured below.
A little rough with a few “interesting” problems… The dash mounted clock resets itself to 1:00 every time I turn the power off… The after market radio only works when the headlight switch is pulled out and the dimmer is above about 30%. The body is in great shape with the exception of the right rocker panel being blown out with rust, but the worst problem is that the kid who had it before me installed one of those mufflers that sounds like an angry bumble bee. That has got to go! Despite all of that it easily made the 100+ mile drive back to my house after buying it.
I already have a few ideas for fixing her back up.

had the same problem, switch on, radio on, swith of radio off and turns back on.
ive found the problem, it's the wrong wire that's been used for the radio.
some radiopannels have a dimmer function. the only explanation is that the red wire, not the yellow one, has been misplaced by the owner before and that's why you have now this issue.
tomorrow i'm going repair some rust places on my old 88 xj, so i'm going to see witchwire you need to connect to let it work properly.
have patient....tomorrow i tell you

here's the wirring for youre radio
+12 Volt Battery Wire ; Pink or Pink w/ White Stripe
+12 Volt Ignition Wire ; Red w/ White Strip
the ground is mostly black, sometimes the ground is the radio dashmount on the chassi itself
Right Rear Spkr (-) Blue w/ White Stripe
Right Rear Spkr (+) Blue w/ Orange Stripe
Left Rear Spkr (-) Brown w/ Yellow Stripe
Left Rear Spkr (+) Brown w/ Blue Stripe
Right Front Spkr (+) Purple
Right Front Spkr (-) Blue w/ Red Stripe
Left Front Spkr (+) Dark Green
Left Front Spkr (-) Brown w/ Red Stripe
for the ground cable. use an long black wire. under the floorpanel on the driver's side. remove one bolt. and adjust it on the bolt. the other black end is going to the radio itself.
if you have problem with th info above pm me then, ive send you some pictures of mine jep XJ then
