New to forum,new to Jeeps
My name is Chris I live in Southeastern Az,am prior service military and a new Jeep Cherokee owner.
I recently totalled a Ford 4wd Truck that I owned for 6 years and needed a Replacement vehicle. As much as I enjoy the out doors and 4 wheeling the replacement had to be a 4WD. Ive always liked the 4wd capability of Jeeps of all kinds, but I was looking at Toyotas as well because I have seen their off road reputation too.
I found my Cherokee on Craigslist locally:
1990 Jeep Cherokee (with NEW tiresGreat of roading rig) - $4000 (Sierra Vista)
Clear Title. It has a 6 cylinder 4.0 performance engine. 4.5" lift. Sway bar can be disconnected quickly. BRAND NEW 33X11.50 BFG All terrain Tires. Trimmed front fenders. Has Aussie Locker in rear. Extended braided brake lines. Runs great, drives great. Blue two door. 140,000miles.
So I went out to look at it and was impressed. Very setup rig,its a 1990 so it has some quirks to be expected from a vehicle this age (A/C needs charging, the left turn signal doesnt flash, the Cig lighter is inop and the stereo keeps popping fuses, and the fuel gauge isnt exactly accurate) Otherwise the truck seems ok.Its totally utilitarian. No carpet, it has Factory vinyl matting throughout,no power windows or door locks to be concerned with,no cruise control,it just has the necessities like Power Steering.
I Test drove it,it handled really well on the highway,no shimmy,or pulling, steering wheel sits straight. It does seem to be lacking in initial off the line get up and go,but im not wanting to race Mustangs and Camaros with it either. Has its rattles and squeaks, but again, thats to be expected.
The seller wanted $4k for it. I offered $3500,he countered with $3600 and with a smile I shook his hand and the deal was made.
Im loving this thing, with the locker in the rear,I go places in this in 2wd,that I wouldnt dare attempt in my Ford in 4WD. This Jeep really climbs well!!! The seller was off a little on the tires size. It actually has 32's on it.
So how did I do on this purchase? Did I do ok,or did I overpay? What are some things I need to watch out for as in weaknesses and trouble spots that are known on all Cherokees?

Welcome to CF!! The condition it is in and all of the extras that are already on it, you got a good deal. The lack of get up a go you mentioned I would bet is from oversize tires and stock axle gears.
