New to the Forum and Hello
Wanted to start my time here at the Jeep Cherokee Forum by saying Hello to all. I've owned a Cherokee now for over 30 years and have decided it is time for the old girl and I to have some fun. I bought her new when I was in the military (only vehicle I have ever bought brand new!) and she was a daily driver for the longest time. Now that the kids are grown and gone, my wife and I want to fix her up, explore some backwoods, get out camping more, and the like. Here is a picture of my Cherokee: 1987, 2.5L 4-cyl, all stock. She is currently all stock and that is the original paint job on her.
Looking forward to chatting (though I do not spend a lot of time on a computer) and asking for thoughts. Have a great day! -gbforge

Thanks for the welcome.
Glad to be here! Thank you for the welcome. Looking forward to asking questions and having fun doing the changes from stock. Nothing drastic, just make her more (in my mind) compatible for getting off the beaten path - new rear bumper with external tire carrier (to free up interior space) and a cargo cage on top. At least that will be my starting point, after she gets a good maintenance once over to make sure she is safe and reliable, which includes new tires; going from the stock BFG A/T K02 in 215/75r15 to same brand and model tire, but in 235/75r15.

I thought it would be cool to hang my 35" tire off the back of mine for a while knowing I'd need to reinforce the bumper eventually. Wellllllll stupid me left it on there a bit too long and cracked the "frame" where the bumper mounts. Nothing crazy but definitely noticeable. The bumper was hanging off. I still haven't put these brackets on but I did fix the cracks and plug weld a piece of 14ga steel on to act as a stiffener and brace in the meantime. I will be adding these though. My 35 is heavy as hell. It also makes for a more reliable and stronger recovery point. I cringe if I need to be tugged by the rear bumper.
