Default My new old Jeep (unfortunately I can't keep it long)

Greetings all,
This is the 1988 Jeep Cherokee Limited I inherited. It has 56k miles and I have all documentation since it was new including the original window sticker and purchase order. Because I have my first child coming in August and I am not known to be someone who can own a vehicle without having to sink money into it in some way my other half has made it abundantly clear that I shouldn't plan on keeping it. I can't honestly argue with her either because my track record is atrocious. But how cool would this Jeep look with my Thule Moab basket on top and mud all over it? She thinks it would look a lot cooler with a starter deposit in the babies college fund. How much is a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Limited in super nice condition worth? I cannot find any KBB values going back that far. What should I ask for it?

Welcome to CF. That's a very nice looking, low mileage Jeep, even though it is 24 years old. I'd ask $3,500 for it if there's nothing mechanically wrong, and there's no rust anywhere. If it doesn't sell you can always come down on the price. If you started off higher I doubt you'd get any replies at all because of the age. JMO of course.

I agree, ask 3500 or so and expect 2500 or so. Its nice as hell and clean, with super low miles, but your probably only gonna be able to sell it to someone who is specifically looking for a Cherokee and your competing with much newer vehicles. Plus allot of people think that because it has low miles and is old the vehicle must have sat for a long *** time.

Id buy it if I had the money, and it was a 2 door lol; you are close to where I used to live though so if you want I'll ask around and pass the word and see if I can't find someone looking for an xj or even just a clean 4x4.

First welcome from Wisconsin. Very nice Jeep. This is my '91 limited. I inherited in Oct. of 2008. It was at 62,000 miles at that time. And just like you, I have all the paperwork, since it's birth. I'm the third owner. My mother had bought used when it was three years old. I had checked Kelly's Blue Book then at that time on it. (When I inherited it) Mine listed at $2500 at that time, mainly because it was a limited. (With all the goodies.) It is possible to get $3500, but your going to have to wait for the right buyer. "That really loves it." You could put it up on E-bay (with a reserve on it) or Craigslist. And hold out until your price is met. What ever that may be. But, If I was you, I would keep it. It didn't cost you anything, Insurance is really cheap. And even at 10,000 miles a year. It would take you twenty years to even come close to wearing out the motor. I mainly only use mine for camping, hunting, fishing, and during winter storms. So mine just hit 70,000 now. (8,000 miles in almost four years) Keep it, Tell the other half. You'll throw $10 a week into the colleague fund. And when that child is ready to leave, give him/her. A great looking Jeep, with a set of antique plates on it. And probably still under 100,000 miles. JMO! I plan on keeping mine until I die. P.S. I like those lattice style rims alot more in silver than the gold. (sandblast them and a coat of clear.) Attachment 121933

Man that one's just broken in. Great looking XJ. I looked at XJ's up here with 180,000 totally rotted for $2500 on the dealer lots. I found my ZJ private sale.

If it's solid at $3,500 you would probably move it pretty fast.
