My first 4x4
Hey all, just bought my very first 4x4, I have a background in building forced induction cars and 1/4 racing. After blowing 2 transmissions in the past year on my drag car, and becoming interested in offroading, I am in the process of parting my car and bought my 1999 Cherokee CSE a few days ago. I actually had a deal in place for a nice YJ but got craigslist screwed and ended up buying this one, and am glad I did. Obligatory pics:
I bought it for 3k, which seemed high but was actually low for what these things are going for in arizona. It has 115k miles and runs great. I am just in the process of learning about these great cars and planning my build. It came with a set of new bushwacker flares he never installed so im going to put those on. Interim plans include picking up a set of wheels with some bigger tires 31" and a lift kit soon enough.

Nice car, mine was a trailer queen, but it ran 8's. Mine also wasnt much of a looker, but i intended it to be that way, no show and all go.

8's is flying, im not a great driver nor did my car have slicks. I was satisfied with 11.3 on radials with my last build. I'll eventually build another drag car but it is an expensive hobby. I think I'll be extremely happy with 6-7k into this xj when im done with it instead of 14-15k into a drag car at this point. I'm poor now

What suspension setup would you guys recommend? I was thinking of getting a short arm lift kit from rusty's, but what do you guys think about long arm/short arm. Is it worth buying a nice long arm kit? Assume that I know nothing about lifted jeeps. Because I know nothing.
