Question MAF sensor

Ok. I'm new to the forum so hi to all. I have a question that I hope can be answered. I have a 2009/10 KK (I think) the 2.8 CRD engine. The inter-cooler pipe split and was replaced but ever since then I have been plagued with fault P0101. I've had it to a supposed "expert" and jeep "specialist" who after a fruitless £280 came up empty. I'm convinced it's the MAF sensor. I'm trying to eliminate the causes one at a time. Then I'll fork out another small fortune on an auto-lecky if DIY fails. So, on the strength of that I have bought a new sensor, however when when I put it in the engine splutters and cuts. I'm assuming that plug 'n play wont cut it and have to reset the ECU. I have read and been informed of so many different methods. Please help. Yes I'm a noob, worse still an inept one but I do try.
