Just picked up a 2000 XJ sport 4.0 from one of those buy here pay here lots. I was hesitant to do so, but after months of searching for the right XJ, it turned out to be the one.
This is the day I brought it home;

As soon as I got it home I had to do some troubleshoot as it wouldn't turn over. Not even a click...
Turns out a previous owner had installed one of those pass time devices that allows for GPS tracking, and remote disabling of the motor for delinquent payers.

Since I paid cash for the jeep, and the lot never asked for it back, I decided removing it completely was the best option. Especially since they used a shotty jumper to "disable" the device. I cut the harness out, and rewired the ignition switch, no troubles since.
The jumper;

My rewire;

This is an artists rendering of what I am thinking of doing to it... i'm on the fence with the hood, but will definitely paint the wheels;

removed the body trim. i plan on reinstalling it at some point, after painting it along with the bumper caps, and the fender flares;

I have a few maintenance items that need to be completed before I get too serious with the mods; tune up, oil change, flush the axles, figure out where the smell of gas is coming from after its been running (doesn't smell after its been sitting for a while, and there are no leak marks), get a new AC compressor (this one had it removed), fix the headliner, figure out why the exhaust pushed the o2 sensor out of its socket and why it wont go back in, and get some new tires. Eventually I plan on a mild lift, some more aggressive bumpers, and other various creature comforts.
