Hi, hubby and I have now had our 01 Cherokee XJ for 3 months. She's a green classic (the one with the golf man on the back).

We live in Australia, Brisbane to be exact and used to have a Nissan Patrol when we lived in the Northern Territory (needed for fording flooded rivers during the big wet). Moved back to civilisation and decided no need for a day to day fourbie so down sized to a Jeep Cherokee. Lots of discussion between a cherokee or a wrangler and decided the Cherokee was a little more family friendly.

We love to off road but havent' managed it yet as we've just bought a house too! But soon, very soon we shall be able to get out there.

While Jeeps are common here, can't find any Aussie forums or anything for tech knowledge when questions arise and as the car didn't come with any form of records, we are flying blind.

If you don't understand some of my Aussieism's, let me know and I shall interpret.

Hi, welcome to the forum from Fantic.
US people don't know what a Nissan Patrol is, it was only sold in the rest of the world.
Awesome beast, what was it a GR? Diesel?

The cherokee is a light weight 4X4 compared to the Patrol.
There is a crazy australian that built one for the outback.

Thanks guys.... Yes i wasn't sure if you guys would know what a Patrol was. They are the go anywhere type of fourbie which is what you need for up there. In 3 years we dealt with floods, cyclones and playing stuck in the mud during the wet season. Best thing in the world with a 4wd.

It was a diesel, manual DX which was the step down from the nice family car. Vinyl flooring and basic fabric on seats meant if it got a little wet inside... not a problem. I do miss my lumbering truck a bit.

So looking forward to taking the Jeep out though. Need some rain to provide a bit of slipperiness that we like. Hubby likes sideways rather than facing front when hitting the water.

Only mod we've done is to install a tow bar. Next is to look into moving the spare out of the back and onto the tailgate.

I do however resent that you think a patrol is the best thing out there in 4wd. i was raised jeep and i live cherokee.
