Greetings from Minnesota! 
Picked up my first XJ last month, a '97 Sport with 258k onnit. Test drove strong, and the price was right. Been doing my best to see the road bumps as opportunities for learning, and am feeling more confident in my abilities every day. Not much of a mechanical background (had changed brakes and fluids before getting the Jeep), but have been reading the books (Haynes, Chilton), forums, watching youtube, and consulting a handy friend of mine. I'm looking forward to taking care of my Jeep so it can take care of me! Not much of on offroad kinda guy, just need a reliable DD that can handle the occasional trip to the mountains and a steep climb or two up the gravel roads in Kentucky. The large majority of my driving will be in the high sodium surrounds that are the frigid midwest.
Looking forward to learning, and I'll do my best to poke around before asking any stupid questions.
