Hi from Pittsburgh
Just wanted to say Hello to everybody and thanks for reading my post!
Just picked up my 94 Cherokee from government auction; Beaten up, but has only 65000 original miles! My fist Jeep Cherokee and found this forum. I wanted Jeep for long time, but could not justufy it; Now I live in hills of western PA and real 4x4 is a necessity.
Now forgive my ignorance; As I said I never had Jeep or any 4x4 as a matter of fact, and have have couple questions.
First, there is high pitch sound coming from upper part of the engine, sounds very much like bad bearing, but I can't tell whether it is water pump, steering pump or alternator bearing. The w/pump housing looks fairly new; I suspect it was replaced not long time ago. Although the coolant was dangerously low when I picked up the car, so I wander if I have bad w/pump (no overheating)
The other problem is the smell of burnt rubber or gear oil coming from rear wheels. Brakes do not appear binding. I noticed smoke in rear window when I was driving on a highway at high speed (uphill). First i though my engine was burning oil, but it smelled differently, not like exhaust when you have faulty piston rings or valve stem bushings. I wander where do I need to look.
And the third problem I am having is that the car "sneazes" perriodically. Being accustomed with Mercedes vacuum issues, I though if this has to do something with the vacuum. The "sneaze" appears to comeing from transmission, rather than engine. Other than that i enjoy it. Reminds me my early childhood, when I was riding in my grandpa's jeep ion what ised to be Soviet Union (we called it Willis, as everything that looked like that small military truck).
