Hello from Wayland, Michigan
Hi guys! Just wandered in here looking for some general Cherokee info. With any luck I'll soon be an owner too! I've always loved Jeeps. The interest began with Wranglers, but the blood money they go for keeps me from getting one. My wife was driving an '88 Cherokee Limited 4x4 when we met. It had 250K on the clock and about six inches of play in the steering, but it was still fun to drive!
A couple years ago we bought a beautiful '04 Grand Laredo for her. I'm a stick shift/pickup guy from way back, so driving an SUV with an auto took some getting used to, but now I absolutely love it and drive it whenever she lets me!
Right now I'm trying to sell my '07 Silverado 1500 and hope to buy a Cherokee or an '04 or older Grand Cherokee to replace it. You just can't beat the 4.0, the reliability, or the go-anywhere attitude these things have. I'm hooked!
My question is this: I'd prefer a regular Cherokee, but since they haven't been made since '01, most of the ones I find are high mileage. As mentioned my wife's old '88 had 250K on it when she gave it back to her dad (has 275K now) so they're obviously dead reliable. I commute 60 miles round trip to work each day, so I need something that won't leave me stranded. Should I be concerned with a Cherokee that has over 140K? What are some common items I should be on the lookout for?
Any help would be very much appreciated. Awesome site too guys! Thanks! -Marc A. Sebright.

anything over 140k is just gettin broke in
if you really have the bug mileage won't be an issue anyway
don't skimp on the tune up parts and you won't be let down

Welcome, I am not to far from you, about 3 hours dead east of you. I just purchased an 04 Laredo a couple of weeks ago, and am addicted as well. Welcome to the forums.

Welcome form a Michigan transplant to Florida! You're over by Grand Rapids, right? Some pretty country over there. Hills are nice. I miss hills.
140k miles is safe for a daily commuter, if it's been maintained. I commute in my '93, and she's got 194k, but was impeciably maintained. Of course, my commute is only about 20 miles round trip, but I wouldn't have a problem going further. A well maintained Jeep at 140k is just getting started, just keep up with maintaince and keep her full of oil.
