Default Hello from Texas.

Proud owner of a 1985 CJ7. On the hunt for a Cherokee. Going to sell the CJ7 and refurb a Cherokee for my daily driver. I've been a mechanic for almost 40 years and looking forward to being a Cherokee owner. My niece left her Cherokee with us while she was out of the country for a couple of years. I did a bunch of mechanical work on it while she was gone. Fell in love with it and now want one for my own. Thanks for a great sight. A ton of good information here.

Welcome! Want to share Wrench to wrench... These are SOFT compared to a CJ7. The tensile strength of the sheet they used in these needs to be taken into account towards the future of ownership. Even just minimal caging is very important. It is like aluminum foil.

Thanks for the advice. Will take that into consideration. Probably won't go crazy with mods. Mild lift, upgrade drivetrain, good wheels and tires, stout bumpers so crazy drivers will be sad if they get too close. Off road occasionally, too old to prove anything. Look at my wife and go "What's that over there, lets go have a look." Those kind of mods.

I'm the same way, old and nothing to prove. But it can sneak up on you and I am not putting my Grandkids in this again until I address this recently found reality. May as well have a CJ without a roll bar, just about the same difference. Just a heads up.

I am lucky that I don't now have the personal experience that you might want to also replace the fuel tank with a fuel cell. I like these, I like that they are long enough to sleep in when camping yet handle like a sports car, But some safety changes need to be made. Out of the box ain't going to fly for me anymore.

I'm in Round Rock. Have a couple of Cherokee's to look at today. I work in Cedar Park, have met a few nice folks up there that are in AJP. Seems like a nice group. Will check out the fb crowd. Post when I find a good one. Thanks.

Welcome AJ55,

I am new myself and live on Canyon Lake near San Marcos. I bought a right hand drive 94 cherokee for my wife as she is a rural route carrier, thank God I bought a cheap no title donor 96 cherokee as it has saved me 2500 in parts that I have had to replace on hers. I do continue to be impressed with the soild 4.0 that just keeps kicking.

A little worse for wear now but still a good, solid ride. Bought a 1999 Cherokee Sport last weekend. Going to be a great driver once I get done with it. Will load some photos this weekend.
