Hello from Namibia (South West Africa)..
Hi All,
Just a brief greeting and to say how happy I am to have found this site. I have recently bought a Jeep Cherokee XJ (executive) 4.0lt six cylinder (not sure of the year... think it's about 1999 or 2000.. but that could be way off!).
This jeep is a left hand drive (although here we are a right hand drive country!).
I am preparing the vehicle to go through it's roadworthy check so that I can start using it on the public roads... it has a few issues and, I am a paramedic by trade.. so not a mechanic, but I have to wsay that I am learning rapidly!
Thanks to this site, I can now strip the steering column, tighten up those nasty little bolts that come loose.. and rebuild it in under an hour and half.. not bad considering I also don;t have access to the right tools and have to improvise a lot!
I now have to tackle the timing.. the vehicle runs, idles okish, but does surge and die occasionally.. As soon as it is under load, it misses quite badly and lacks power... so Now I do hope I'll find everything I need to get the timing spot on - I understand one has to get the motor to TDC at prescisely o degrees... although I am not sure how you know it is there.. no doubt I'll find some help in these forums!
I have much rebuilding to do, although most of it is cosmetic - happily I see I can source trim and other bits through here also! WhereI am sure to sweat is with the electrics....
Anyway.. after that rambling intro.. I hope to make some good friends here and will post photos of my trips to the desert and other bush sites.. and if you're out this way, look me up - always glad to meet new people.
Brian.

Welcome to the site Nommedic. I'm new to CF myself. Sorry about the engine problems, a tune-up would probably head you in the right direction.
