Default hello from iraq

I've been bored out here in the desert and needed a new(to me) setup to enjoy when I got back. I was looking into 4x4 trucks for a while, but nothing fit in my price range. I read about how the 4.0 inline 6 was a beast of an engine, so i started looking into the XJ.

Browsing craigslist on the gov't dime has led me to a few decent deals, gave me an idea of what kind of prices to find, but then i found this. A 94 XJ with 136 on the dash. She's not the prettiest, but with a clean carfax and a talking em down to 1500, I think I've done alright.

I actually still dont even own it yet, have to have my wife go pay for it monday and take care of the paperwork, but they're holding it for me as far as I know.

The hardest part will be waiting to drive it, but here's what I'll be working with

a/c doesnt work and the abs sensor on the front passenger needs to be replaced, but that's about it. seems the other pics dont want to be hosted, so you get the idea

its going to act as dd duty until I get more into the off road scene. Most likely going with a 3 inch lift with 31's, dont want to push the d35 as I'm sure it's seen better days.

Then im sure the lifts are going to be higher, the tires bigger, axle swaps, lockers, etc etc. maybe even a chopped top for kicks

i'll be lurking, but you most likely wont see much updates from me for a while. Most questions have already been asked numerous times, so if I have something unique, I'll pop in. I'm new to this whole scene, and I'd like to learn to be more mechanically inclined, I'm hoping the xj fits the bill.

so....hi

Hi, Welcome and THANK YOU for serving!

Looks like a nice Jeep, someone has put some love into it.

Looks like it's from the land of brown grass.. gonna guess the Carolina's? If thats the case you may have a very clean and unrusted rig. You do need to be careful when purchasing from a state that uses road salt.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Hope all is going well overseas for you. The Jeep does look nice but I wouldn`t put to much faith in "CarFax" as it`s not really what it seems. I see recently they`d decided to be more honest in their advertising and let you know that they will only inform you of accidents, etc that have been "reported to CarFax". In the past they kind of led you to believe they would tell you any problem with a vehicle as if they actually searched police records, insurance claims, etc for you. In reality they have no idea if anything bad has happened to a vehicle unless the insurance company or police department has gone out of their way to notify them which in most cases they don`t. How do I know? I ran all my vehicles thru there and they all came up clean despite my van being stolen twice..My Jeep in a bad wreck and my brothers Explorer in 2 wrecks one of which was very serious. Plus we rolled the odometer back 80,000 miles and that didnt show

it's actually in Michigan. There is some rust one the passenger side door. The floorboards are pretty solid. The paint isnt as nice as in the pictures from what I'm told, which means I'm more inclined to throw on any ol door I find and give it a rattle can paint job. That or I have a friend who paints for a living, see what I can get done on the cheap.

It fits the bill for me though. I wanted something cheap that was going to last me a few more years while I'm still stationed in VA. I wanted cheap bc well, we all do, plus it helps save money to put towards renting a house with a GARAGE.

I'm hoping I can run into some people who ride trails in the area to help me along the way, esp bc I already want to do an axle swap. We have an auto hobby shop on base with full lift bays and access to any tools we want that we can rent on the cheap, so it's real tempting to take advantage of.

Guess we'll see
