Hello from Indiana
Hello Cherokee Nation! I'm the new owner of a 2000 XJ Sport and previously owned an 89 two door Sport for many years. I hope to learn more about the XJ as well as share some of my knowledge and experience with others. Here's a pic of my current XJ with over 183,000 miles and still running strong. She needs some new wheels and tires but I want to catch up on some of the maintenance items first.

Well guys I took the Jeep into the shop and had quite a bit of work done. I had the following replaced. Head gasket, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, rear main seal, transmission fluid/filter/gasket, water pump, thermostat, high volume oil pump and spark plugs. She runs great and I plan to keep her for the long haul so I thought it was worth having some of these things replaced. Most of them where leaking anyway. My oil pressure was decent before at 20psi hot idle but now it's 45 hot idle! I also picked up a pair of key fobs on Ebay and went to the Jeep dealer to get them programmed. Thanks to a slow day (bad weather) they did them for free!

Yeah no Fram filters. The shop used a Napa white filter which is probably decent enough until the next oil change. They put Valvoline dex/merc fluid in the tranny so I believe I'm good to go there. My next project will probably be changing the fluid in the T case and differentials and then some new shocks.

I'm in Plainfield, thanks for the offer! I'm probably done until after Christmas as I've already spent a bunch of cash this month.

Diesel I've got plenty of tools and I've worked on everything from lawnmowers to Apache Helicopters in the Army but I just didn't have time to tackle these things so I decided to pay somebody else to do it. I'll still be doing a lot of stuff myself in the future. Not to mention it's cold as a grave diggers backside here in Indiana right now.

It is indeed cold, gonna feel like summer though, when those single digits hit.

mcguire, this site is quite helpful on the technical side of things. there are a lot of guys willing to post accurate schematics, procedures, part numbers, and most anything else you can imagine that concerns a jeep Cherokee. I've been around car stuff and forums for a long time, and I must say I am impressed with this site regarding mechanical info. however, there is not much tact in the "constructive criticism" posts haha.
