Default Hello

Hello all, I just sold my 06 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=852037

Got to small for the family, so I am looking for a Cherokee, and I am here to gain info about the do's and don'ts. I generally don't post alot and scope out the posts. I know I want a 4 door and the HO engine, and 4X4...but I'm not sure what year? I think there was a 4.2 ltr motor? Still learning......Glad to be part of the Forum.

all cherokee after 91+ i think came with the 4.0 strait 6. Most people will tell you 97-99 are the best years, then get you a 2000-01 intake manifold and exhaust header if you really care. but in 2000 they went to a low pinion dana 30 in the front just like in the wrangler which is less desirable. Also if you can get lucky enough to find one with the 8.25 instead of the 35 your better off as well. best of luck and welcome

Personally, i prefer the +'91 4.0L H.O. Cherokee. Many here still swear by the older Renix motors though.

Take your time and shop around a bit, because there's plenty of XJ's out there for sale.

Also, look out for rust!
Rust is often found on the roof above the rear hatch and down the quarter panels, just behind the rear windows. And... especially on the floorboards!!!

Good luck on your search!

BTW- to the forum from Idaho!!!

I'm new here too, and in the same boat. We will be getting a 4door XJ for trails and to tow behind a small motorhome. I have spent some time reading and searching. You all know your stuff.

Based on what is posted here, is the 2000 more desireable, but needs a '99 front axle? Are there any preferences for traction control systems, transfer cases, auto trannys, etc?

If you could pick the year and model, then swap a few parts, what would it be?

Welcome to CF. I own a 87 with the 4.0. Love it and the price was right. This is my second Cherokee. The other is a 87. Good luck on your purchase.

Thanks, I am still looking. Is the front axle in the high pinion a Dana30? One of the first things I am gonna do is axles, to either 44 or 60's. Thanks for all the great input, keep it coming.
