Hi all, just wanted to pop in and do the formal introduction thing.
I've got a basically bone-stock 95 Cherokee SE fleet vehicle; crappy flaking white paint and all. It was once a local county sheriff's before it got retired from law enforcement and did a little duty as a city fleet vehicle before being sold to us at auction about 6 years ago. My dad originally bought it for something streetable with 4WD to get around at our farm. It is fairly straight and clean for a 26 year old vehicle, minus the rockers with the typical rust in them (to be replaced with a reinforced rocker/slider setup made by Spadano Ent.). We both had shared it for the past few years depending on who needed it at the time, rehabbing the worn out systems (springs, shocks, steering, etc.) as time went on. After a few years of his decreasing mobility and the fact that it rides too rough for an old guy in his 70s, he turned it over to me. I have had plans for it, and now it is time to start executing some of them.
My only mod as of right now is a JCR Offroad roof rack. The goal is a mild trial runner/overland rig. I'm not wanting to go crazy and make it a mudder or crawler. I just want a good, reliable rig to get out in the back country and enjoy nature with, but something that I can still drive down the interstate (in order to get to all the BA trails our great nation has to offer!). I'm thinking 2 inch lift, front and rear bumpers, winch, the aforementioned sliders, new stereo with 4 working speakers (!), some better lighting, better brakes, and then whatever else my family and I need for some off-road creature comforts.
After getting lost this past summer for an afternoon on state conservation land, wheeling old logging roads and trails in the Ozark Mountains, I caught the bug and decided it's time to start progressing this thing into it's next chapter as a dedicated trail rig. I figured this is the place to get some good info from those who have come before me, so with that said, hello everyone!
