So I pulled the trigger on a 1998 Grand Cherokee 4.0L with 118861 original miles. Everything works, it is amazing.
The problem is a local shop replaced the alternator for the previous owner and broke the ring connector that attaches to the alternator. See Pic. I want to replace the wire end and eye and a short length of wire as the existing wire is very hard and brittle. My question is, does anyone make a premade wire and ring end already made up that can be spliced in with a butt connector? TIA here are a couple of pics of my new project.
That is very easy to fix. Snip the end of the wire off, strip the wire bare, and crimp on a new connector. The mechanic should have done that without hesitation. He should be ashamed for sending a car out of the shop like that.
However, if the wire's as bad as OP suggests, he might want to go bag as far as is practicable, cut it off there, splice in a length of wire [preferable the same colour(s)] & crimp on a new ring terminal.
Frankly, removing the terminal, stripping off, say, 3/4" of insulation & making a loop in the end of it would be an improvement on what's there now.
