Default first 4x4/'modern' car

First off, I have always been fascinated by 4x4 as I grew up in the mountains and desert of Southern California. But when I got around to buying a car, I couldn't pass up on a mummified 62 Skylark (gotta love the desert for some things).

As life usually goes, when you don't need something it's always there and when you absolutely do need it, you find oil in the radiator and an effed all aluminum v-8 (gotta hate the desert for some things).

Well that was at the end of last summer and luckily work was an alright distance to skate. Unfortunately(?) the school district is almost closed for summer so I am now forced to find more gainful employment than dealing with little s***bag 7th/8th graders and the worst administration/school district I've known so far. Time to commute!

So, I got a 1991 K9 service XJ with 124k at an auction for $300. It is an absolute nightmare as far as interior and wiring, but this is exactly what I wanted: a beastly powerplant/drivetrain (4.0 h.o. 5 speed w/service vehicle gearing and steering) with a box over the top of it. I did my first ever smog and it passed well under the standard .

I already started a build page because I thought getting title and registration would be a breeze... guess not . Getting tags on monday for sure though .

Greetings from Lancaster, California! I don't know how many hours I've already spent lurking these pages but thanks for this awesome support and service! I gotta get a sticker and show my own grateful support .

Big time!!! She's staying with me. I'm either crashing it or passing it down. Her name is "Golden Brown" with texture like sun. Master rebuild kit for a 215 v8 is like 2500. Figured I'd put money into something with modern technology like a/c, 3 point seatbelts, airbags, etc.

Thanks and with the wealth of info on this forum, I am certain that the Jeep will continue to outdo itself.
It may be a pos but it's MY pos. And it will never go to pasture... I already love that thing as much as the Buick.
