Default first 4x4

hello everyone, i got my first 4x4 saturday, a 1990 Jeep Cherokee 2 Doors with the 4.0 and the 5 speed.

Pretty cool jeep, some cool factory options, like front shield under the bumper, roof-rack, ac, cruise control....i have the window sticker from the original owner, $20000 he paid for it in 1990!!!

Anyway, it has 170.000 miles on the clock, it runs good, rough idling though... The cruise doesn't work, and the turning signals either. other than that it all good.

Just bought the Chilton manual to figure out why the vacuum lines are cut off the shift motor located on the front drive axle. i read a few post about it already so it shouldn't be hard to fix it.

Does anybody have R12 for my AC!?!?

cheers,

Siggy.

Your definitely gonna need that vacuum hooked up in order for 4x to work. I zip tied mine in hope of keeping it from disconnecting while wheeling, again.

yes i will try to redo the vacuum lines soon. i got under there today and i have to go through the whole front end anyway before i take it wheeling. a few neglected suspension components are over due!!

Plus the rear end makes a humming noise when i turn. only when i turn though not when going straight. Weird

the plan is:

I need to make it into a reliable daily driver. so i need to go through the rear end figure out the humming noise. i wanna flush all gear oil and replace it with new oil.

I kinda want to replace all the vacuum lines too. i don;t know if that is a big job or not, ill look into it soon.

Probably convert the AC to R134 soon, its gonna be hot down here.

try to get the most MPG out of it, maybe install 4 points injectors (not sure if that's how you say it) 4 holes per injector instead of one? any feed back?

so reliable daily driver with good MPG is my priority and then i'll mess with the front end to make the 4x4 work, since the vacuum lines are cut, its not working at the moment.

Later down the road, 2inch lift, purple metallic paint job, newer Jeep wheels, custom roof rack, custom bumpers, cruise control and radio, ill be happy with that.!!

Thanks for the interest!

Siggy.

Finally had a little bit of time today to work on the Jeep, realized that the previous owner hot wired the secondary fan to keep the jeep cool. (the one that turns on when the AC is on).
The clutch fan on the main one was bad. So I replace the fan clutch today on the main fan and deleted the hot wiring.

Tomorrow hopefully ill convert the ac to 134.

Thanks.
