Hello everyone, I just wanted to properly introduce myself on here. I am "The Renegade Guy" and am friends with username- 5-speed. I often go hit the trails with him and his awesome modded XJ, except I am in my 2016 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk so its often hard to keep up. It does well but just doesn't compete... Well not being able to go everywhere he does finally got to me so I went out and bought myself a 1994 Cherokee XJ project!!

It is an auto with 178k miles, 4wd works great, trans shifts smooth and it made it back 100 miles from where I bought it with ease! Best part is I only paid 800 bucks for it!!

My plans currently for it are to just flush all fluids and add all fresh fluids, basic tune up, a simple 2 inch lift (for now) and some decent all terrains and then hit the trails and see what it can do. Of course get it smogged and registered first.

I have watched/ helped my buddy "5-speed" when I can wrench on his XJ and have learned as much as I can with his help and hope to learn even more from him now that I have my own Cherokee. I also plan to do a lot of poking around here to learn more. It is great to finally be a part of this community!!

P.S.- If anyone knows where I can find a decent rear tire carrier I'm also in the market for one...

So all the BS about the new "Cherokee" being as capable if not more than the XJ is all just BS? All the talk about how the new one has better approach angles and better this and that is all just marketing smoke I guess.

 

OP has a Renegade not a new Cherokee (KL). Stock KL vs stock XJ, good match. Mod both and the XJ with destroy the KL.

 

Ah, thanks. I saw Trailhawk and just kept on thinking it was the new Cherokee. I need to read more slowly.
