Last year I bought a single owner, nearly stock, babied, everything works, 1992 Cherokee Sport from a family friend who's husband had passed. We had a few Jeeps on the ranch growing up, a ****** pickup, and a 70's era CJ7. There is nothing other than Jeep trails on the ranch, heck even getting into the ranch requires 3 or more miles of Jeep trails before you hit any of our gates. Having a 4x4 is survival and productive at 8000+ elevation on the north slope of the Uinta mountains. Especially since we sit were the mountains touch the clay badlands. Over the years I have had most domestic flavors and a few imports in the 4x4 category. Most were stock, some were slightly modified. So it is with significant glee that I was able to nab this particular XJ. It only had 175K mileage and a recently rebuilt motor.
I will be lurking around here to figure out how I want to modify this XJ for our family off road fun. We love to camp, hike, fish and explore. Getting us and our gear on sight and back out is the primary mission, having some fun and testing our limits is icing on the cake.
To be honest, I don't know a lot about this particular model, and my other passions won out over car builds a long time ago. So this project is for my kids, to teach them how to wrench, plan, set goals, and then enjoy the fruits of their labors. We are going to have a good time figuring out the journey.
