Default Cherokee Newb in the forums

Hey guys, my name is Camaron Davis.

Just recently started getting into Cherokee's after seeing how capable they are with very little work. In the past I had mainly only wheeled my 79 CJ. Then my wifes little sister started dating a guy that wheels the XJ's along with about 4 of his friends. After sometime with them and seeing just how much these Jeeps can handle I started searching for one.

Wasnt long into my search and a 89 Cherokee Limited popped up for sale just south of me (around 4 hrs south to be exacted, Ocala, FL). The price tag is what really interested me $400.00 bucks. So I get down to this guys house trailer intow and see a red 4dr setting in his drive way. The Jeep hadnt run in about 1 yr and he had no idea what was wrong with it. I dropped a battery in her and let it turn over some. Compression sounded really good and with the help of some WD40 the motor would try to start. He said he thought it was a electrical problem and some smoke would come from this shiney cyclinder (ABS vacum pump ) Well I thought about it and offered him 300 and carried it home.

Well to make a long story short. New fuel pump/sending unit, fuel filter, engine flush, vacum lines, ditched the Benix ABS system in favor of standard power brakes, new rotors, ditched the electric seats, new drums, hardware and shoe/pads, swapped out the gold rims for some aluminum stock Jeep rims, grabbed a set of 31 x 10.50 BFG A/T's for 200 bucks and started driving the Cherokee. Even with the open front and trac lock rear it does pretty good. I just plan on a 4.5 lift and some 32's. No major offroading, just some fun.

I do have one question though. I want to take the locker from my D30 Cj axle and swap it over to the D30 Cherokees. They have the name part number when looking at it online so they should be the same correct?

Well thanks in advance guys and great looking board you have going.
Take care,
Camaron

Also beside full scale wheeling I run some 1/10 Radio Controlled offroaders also. Here is a picture of a good friend of mines. Figured you guys would appricate it. You are all welcome to come by and check out our board also @ www.scale4x4rc.us

Welcome to the boards. Where you from Camaron? You indicated about 4hrs north of Ocala. I'm in the Valdosta, GA area myself. If we're anywhere near each other we should meet sometime.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Everyone here seems to be a great group of guys.
XJ Stryker - Dont feel bad it does fool a lot of people. The RC you see is a custom job done by a guy from Germany, it belongs to a friend of mine who is a editor for RC Driver Magazine, so he got it for free. If you were to buy it as you see it, you are looking at around 2000 bucks. Everything works on it. From the 3 speed tranny to the warn winch on the front.

Does anyone know if the locker from my CJ's D30 will fit the XJ's D30?

Welcome from South Texas. The answer to your question is yes it will fit but if you have a Limited you have the 242 and they don't like front lockers especially in full time. May make full time 4WD an undriveable situation. Not trying to discourage you but just a warning.
Again Welcome to CF

Thanks man. Just curious as to what it does when you say it dont like it? Yes it does have the np242.

This wont be a daily driver, just a weekend cruiser perhaps. I have always like a locker in the front axle and a open rear in my CJ's for just general offroading nothing major.

When a 242 is in full time 4WD it has a sort of differential built into the transfer case. When there is a locker in the front D30 it wants to fight the T/C differential and can be a handful in a corner or in a back and forth situation like a switchback in the mountains. Handles like a part time 4WD on a hard surface road kinda, but without the binding on turns, just jumpy. Hard, as you can see, to describe.
Not trying to discourage you from putting it in but just wanted to warn you that it won't be like it is in your CJ.
