I have a 1990 cherokee limited that I purchased 2 weeks ago. My problem is sever gas fumes in cab. There is no dripping or leakage on garage floor, nor any where on chassisy. With gas cap on, while washing XJ, I noticed fume in the filler door area. Could I have a cracked or loose vent hose or ???.

Any suggestions for a simple fix other than taking it to dealership?

 

Did you just fill it up and if so, did you top it off and do you do this on a regular basis? If so, stop doing that. I did this same thing with another car I used to have and found out it was causing the smell. After I stopped topping it off and just filling it until the pump automatically kicks off, I was good.
Could also be a bad seal on your gas cap.

 

Could be the gas cap seal as stated, or the rubber hoses where the filler neck and vents connect to the tank inlets. JMO
