What should i look out for? The jeep has 144,100 mile's on it. It's a california car soo no rust. the check engine light is on. Any info would be nice.

I would look out for falling deeply in love with it, it sneaks up on you. But more serious, your xj is one of the better years. You didn't say about the drivetrain but its pretty much all great. It would be better if you have the 4.0l engine and the Chrysler 8.25" rear axle.

With the check engine light, go to an autoparts like autozone, napa, or o'reilly's and have them check for codes. That should narrow it down a bit, because "check engine light" is a sign to such a vast array of problems.

Sorry, thought you already owned it, my bad. But ya, most likely something simple but checking with the scanner will help. Sounds like you've already started to fall for it.
