Default Bought a 2000 Cherokee this afternoon...

I don't even know enough to know what I don't know yet. I'm 45 and know vehicles, just not Jeeps, per se. I have experience driving them from a stint with Corporate Express and know that Cherokees are pretty tough and reliable and that's what my Wife and I wanted this time around...something tough and reliable, a Rig instead of another little putt-putt cage to bang around in.

I don't have any real desire to get it out on the rocks but if some disaster happens, I want to be able to possibly get around some goofiness that others cannot. I like to go camping and this could possibly get us to some places that regular vehicles, even pickups, cannot. Which is fine, too.

So...I bought this Cherokee this afternoon and because it is 14 years old and is about ready to turn 101,000 the waiting game begins to see what will eventually kaboom on this thing and land us on the bus and cabs again until we can get it fixed. It was a former State vehicle, they were the only owner, dealer purchased at auction, so, fingers crossed that it is not going to be a basketcase. It runs like a scalded dog.

I want to get it to a car wash and vacuum it out, under the rear seat and clean up a little bit of gutter rust on the right side and hit that with primer and some white Plasti-Dip and do some cosmetic stuff like that as well as get rid of the radio which is on the fritz and just get a Alpine or Kenwood unit in there that is just AM/FM/MP3 feeding off of a USB Port on the front for a flash drive. I probably won't replace the speakers in the back headliner and just get new door speakers to go with it, that will be plenty loud enough.

Well, I have six more years to go before I can get historic tags in Maryland and be done with a lot of the financial burdens and hassles of owning a vehicle here. So, here's to a long life.

Went to the grocery store after a trip earlier today to get some Rain-X Windshield Washer Fluid and generic JEEP rubber floor mats, started snowing. Hell froze over.

ive got a 2000 cherokee 4dr classic with the 4.0 I6. ive currently only had problems with the blower motor not spinning and my fuel pressure regulator causing my jeep to start on the second crank. 128000 miles. you might have small problems here and there but nothing drastic, its a pretty reliable vehicle

Not at all... just know about the 0331 head that plagues the 2000's... stay on top of that and you'll be fine.

Head is bad on them?

How exactly do you stay on top of a bad head? There is a beer joke in there somewhere, I know...
