Welcome! I had a very similar experience, even with the VW's! My family would take a yearly pilgrimage to Moab as well. My first driving experiences were in a sand rail and a baja bug in that same needles area. Even my first wreck was on the back side of elephant hill. I can't wait to take my own kids out there soon!
