A guy actually gave me this jeep. It runs but has some issues. Mostly related to a tree falling on it and the transmission is stuck in Reverse. . Any guidance to whether this thing was a good deal for free is invited. I have vowed not to put any money into it until I know what I have and until it actually drives in the forward direction.

My son will be in charge of this build if we proceed. Any Help out there as what I have and if it is worth putting time and money into it. Also is there a better place to post as to the transmission issue? It has an inline 6 cyl and a 5 speed transmission. The clutch seems to be working, but the shifter won't go into any gear - evidently is stuck in "R" though.

Welcome to the site. A 2 door, 5 speed combo is one of the preferred setups for Jeeps. Some will say its "rare". Idk how rare it actually is. My advice is to start searching for your answers. If you don't find an answer then post a thread with your problems.

Welcome, my suggestion would be to get under it and try to manually shift it into drive might just be a linkage issue good luck.

definitely the biggest problem is that it only goes in reverse. Oh and lets just say it is well ventilated now that I tore out the carpet and was hiding the fact that there was hardly a floorboard left.

I'm not fixing anything until I figure out the tranny issue.
