I got an overhead console with the trip computer, keyless entry, and map lights from the Junkyard today. Has anyone swapped one into their XJ yet? If so, how do I wire it up?

 

it is almost imposible as the ZJ reads its info in a diiferent way.
do a search on the naxja forum. There is an extensive write up there covering almost all the info you need.

but in short it wont work.

 

But you could use it for storage (only small things like sunglasses) or for switches!

 

So basically, I need to go to the junkyard again and get the trip computer out of an XJ overhead console? I could probably get it for free so its no big deal.

 

Actually, I was thinking of putting some switches up there too lol. It would kind of remind me of a plane cockpit

I also had an Idea to figure out how to mount a radar detector up there along with a CB. I'd have to do a lot of reinforcing for the CB though.

 

the ZJ overhead console mounts differently also. You need to find one out of an xj like i did look in albums for the pics.

certain higher model xjs have them. That is what you need. along with the wiring harness, mounting bracket for the rear of the console, and temp reader on the exterior front of the XJ and it has to be as close as you in model years. different model years had different connections.

 

The mounting really doesn't matter too much to me since I plan on pulling the headliner out to reupholster it. I can fab up anything I need then.
I'll look around to see if I find any XJs with the overhead console.
