You will end up with a D35, which most people avoid... but I guess it would make the coil swap a bit easier... I would also pull the V8's steering for the XJ while your at it... and the alt. Might as well pull as many upgrade parts as you can for your XJ while your at it..

If they have the v8 they are 3:73 gears, ya you can except the rear because xj have leafs in the rear and zj have coils. If your swapping rear axles in an xj and want something that will bolt up get a 29 spline 8.25 out of a later cherokee, like 98-01 I believe someone correct me if I'm wrong

How hard is it to swap the tie rod and drag link over to an xj from a zj? Do you need anything extra to make it work or is it bolt right up?

A v8 ZJ tie rod will bolt right up. No mods necessary. I believe that the drag links are identical, so swapping that from the ZJ isn't going to get you anywhere in the strength department.

yeah ZJ axles are most certainly NOT a worthwhile swap. it will most likely be a downgrade from whatever you have now.
