Default zj axle housing

New to the jeep thing. I know my 97 grand cherokee needs rebuilt and the front needs a new housing. Will any other jeeps bolt under it or do I need to use ones from another zj. And are all year 93i98 all the same. This is a daily driver and does hit a trail here and there. Don't wanna buy custom alxes for this bc I want a xj to build.
Thanks for your guys help

Tyler

ZJs are low pinion as are TJs which are a direct bolt in. XJs are high pinion and will bolt in but will have drive shaft issues unless it's lifted. Also some ZJs have a CV type drive shaft mount at the axle and this is unique to the ZJ but easily swapped out. Gear ratio is another consideration, 3.55 is common but 3.73s is pretty common as well. Your front and rear have to match. What is wrong with your front axle because it may be easier to just fix it.

The rear has a spun pinion bearing and its ugly, and for the front the pumpkin is missing a chunk out of it. It has a 2in lift. So a tj front and rear will bolt right up to mine 4 link setup. And also our the housing dana 30 in front and dana 35 in rear

TJ front will bolt up but not the rear, brackets are a little different.

Since you have a 2" lift your best and most easily available option is an XJ HP30 for the strength increase.

Easily found with 3:55 or 3:73 gearing to match whats in there now.
