So i've been looking for parts for my 4wd swap for a while, and have run into some snags. So far i've yet to find an xj with a 2.5 to pull a 4wd ax5 from, and dont see finding one in the near future. So does anyone know if the wrangler (YJ or even TJ) ax5's are compatible with the xj? Will they mount into the trans tunnel as the xj ax5 does and are the bellhousing bolts going to line up with the xj 2.5?

Also, how hard is it to convert the np231 to 21 spline to mate to the ax5? I've had trouble finding 21 spline TC's, however i can find 23 spline 231's and 242's all day long on craigslist. If its simple enough i'll just convert one over.

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the trans' from the wranglers actually clock the t-case at an awkward angle in the XJ's... Whether or not you can swap the ends off the trans that the t-case bolts to IDK... BUT i have heard of people just simply re-drilling the correct orientation into the back of the wrangler trans.

as far as the splines on the t-case... maybe swapping input shafts to the corrected spline

I had actually heard the same thing, but wasnt too positive. How would you go about redrilling the trans to the correct orientation? And i have actually heard that with a 1" or so Tcase drop then the clocking wouldnt be a problem, but that was with an ax15 from a wrangler.. Maybe I can just find a transfercase already mated with a ax5, just to decrease the work i must do..
