1996 XJ Gas tank Swap out to a newer year?-
Howdy there from Canada!
hope im posting this in the right place...
Ok i got a Fuel Tank Question on my 1996 Cherokee HO SPort i recently bought...
im changing out THE leeky METAL gas tank on it...
ok ok i got it out fine but looking at it its a steel metal tank any ideas or upgrades to a different tank maybe a plastic one ?
hoping i can find a plastic one that will swap over from a junk yard from a newer Cherokee?
The Pump from my old tank looks fine and works great i would like to reuse it
sorry I am going to reuse it to save a lil cash, and im CHEAP ha ....
Ok after being gassed by doing all this above ,,,
I was wondering what years am i looking for at the wrecker that will be a easier swap out?
also the pump wiring the same or is that asking to much ?ect
HOPING i can i just use my old pump and sending unit in the possible plastic tank?
thanks

First off, I would wait a bit. Most folks on here are probably sleeping or doing Saturday morning things..
Second. Please stop using PhotoBucket. Move to imgur. Unless you want to pay PhotoBucket the $400 so others can see your pictures. Photobucket "cookies" your browser so YOU don't see anything wrong. Other people see this obnoxious add.

I also have a ‘96 as my daily driver. Got it for free, and it needed a few things but I’ve been driving it for over a year now and have no complaints. It’s a New England vehicle, and though relatively rust free it has some floor pan issues as well as a leaky gas tank due to rust. I was hoping this thread would produce a good alternative fuel tank, but if there is no plastic tank upgrade, why mess around with a junkyard tank that needs patching and will soon need replacing? For the money, why not just start with a new replacement steel tank?

I really want to find A plastic one instead and if by chance i get used tank Generally the pump comes with it..aswell so i will have spare im hoping..
TWO yes i can get a MetaL donar tank basically free !
MY NEW XJ is a beater vehicle and ya i agree
a awesome winter beater vehicle at THAT SO far!
Infact May even look into a Budget lift soon in Spring nothin serious
Budget Bastard Pack Junk yard 3 to 4 inch lift
three: ---> IM CHEAP AS HELL I MIGHT AS WELL BE SCOTTISH! lol HA
ok after awhile if this thing gets me by for Winter/Hunting /Fishing/ hauling the boat i
may splurge 260 into JUST a new tank but for now i need the

SO i will limp it along best as i can for now
Bottom Line Is Yes if i ever do it again and want it perfect NEW TANK AND PUMP AND STRAPS AND HANGERS are in order..
