I had the same issue as you when i installed my HD shackle, I had to widen the mounting holes to line up with the welded nut strips.

I just took a look at your build thread, I see you went with the lifted boxes instead of the no lift kit. I did the no lift on both of my XJ's, not sure how the fit is for the lifted ones. They look much easier to install as you don't have to cut out the old shackle boxes.

I'd mock them up first before you paint them in case you need to clearance anything. Either way, HD Offroad seems to make some quality stuff.

Its pretty easy. Just have to unbolt the brake lines, take the front bumper off, unbolt the steering box and the track bar bracket.

Its a lot easier if you can take the coil springs out as well, but not necessary.

C clamps are your friend to get them in, lined up and tacked in place.

I just found this thread as I'm researching lots of weldable upgrades. One thing I saw on the hooligan mids was the picture didn't show holes for the cross member??? Maybe I'm not seeing something, but does anyone have these?

do you wish you went with something else?

do you weld the upper ruff stuff stiffeners that touches the cab portion?

what's eveyone doing for rust mitigation? Weldable primer... body sealer??

I learned of a couple new options/ brands here, sweeet!

thanks all!

hello.
I am currently taking a welding class with the intention of doing my own work welding these in in the fairly near future. I was just wondering what exactly are the rosettes folks are referring to? Thanks !!

Ah! Referring to the holes in the stiffeners I assume? All of them or are there some meant for bolts for rock rails or nerf bars or the like?

Thumbs up Plan/Guide for channel frame stiffeners

Hi guys,

I live in Colombia and have an XJ from 96 and would like to have frame stiffeners made from 1/8 or 3/16 stainless steel.

Is there anyone who has a plan/blueprint for these frame stiffeners? I'm looking for a guide to know where to drill the holes, etc.

It's crazy expensive to ship them from the US, hence why the question. Any other tips are very much welcome.

Have a great weekend!

Tom

Stainless? Why?

Not a good idea...I'm guessing you want corrosion resistance, but welding dissimilar metal together is not ideal. First off, it's harder to work with, second the stainless is more sensitive to heat cracking, weld strength will be reduced, and bimettalic corrosion will increase...you're better off just using mild steel, and keeping up on maintenance, like keeping the underside clean and protected with coatings, just my .02
