recently bought a '89 XJ that someone had MADE!! 1-ton steering. so it eliminates the "Y" style drag link setup. after getting this jeep, I wanted to replace the steering with the OEM style. Upon removing the old and installing the new, I found that the pitman arm and knuckles were reamed for the bigger TREs.(tie rod end)

So the back yard steering actually had some good parts. The TREs are an aftermarket part, and the bars are homemade. (saving money i guess)

The moral of this post is that I am trying to find a company that makes this kit, and so far i have only found one. JCR offroad.

I am wanting to know if anyone knows about a different/better company.

Fingers Crossed

below is the link to the upgraded steering kit

Why a better company? From what I have heard, jcr is pretty good. Jcr, serious offroad and ruff stuff all sell kits that are pretty similar. What do you want to return to stock? What is wrong with the setup you are trying to take off?

the set up on there is warn out and needing new Tie rods. and since this will be more daily then off-road, I figure just go back to stock design for handling. (if it is much of a difference)

and the only reason I ask about a different company is because i have never swapped to 1 ton before. so I have no knowledge of the products or companies. or specs at all really

They are likely standard gm 1-ton tie rods. If it is lifted, it will probably handle better with the new setup over stock. You will probably need new knuckles and pitman arm.

If it already has better steering, keep it that way. A better setup is a good idea though. Go Serious Offroad (seriousoffroadproducts.com).

Whatever you do, don't revert back to stock

there is absolutely nothing different between JCR, ruffstuff, ballistic, whoever's 1 ton steering kits. ok, maybe tube size. they all use the same GM tie rod ends.

whats wrong with this steering that is making you remove it?

My only issue was how warn out the tie rods are. And since I had all new stock steering in the garage I figured why not. But I did find all the parts I needed through auto zone. I gave them part numbers off of the tie rods and surprisingly they had them...

Weird that a parts house would stock items that came from the factory on hundreds of thousands of trucks made for around 25 years.

why do you think the crappy eom steering would be a better option for handling?

The Ruffstuff is different where you need to measure, cut, and weld to fit. While this is not a bad thing it just might not be for everybody. JCR and Serious are already built to fit.

Anything would be better then what was on there. the tie rods were so warn out the jeep could do the Harlem shake by hitting a pine cone

so I'm guessing you've never driven a lifted jeep with y steering. Replace the tres and it'll be a million times better than stock.

the long TRE is reamed out by them, otherwise its just a MOOG end.

wOrn tie rod ends. WORN with an O. See reference below.

Why don't you just replace the Tie Rod Ends? Chances are they are Chevy 1 ton TREs. Pretty cheap and readily available, and a lot cheaper than buying a whole new steering.
