why have I not heard about this yet
60.5 width and 5on4.5 30 spline
sounds like it's a perfect drop in swap why have I not seen anyone do this on an xj yet??

Just not worth any thing more then what your replacing. If it looks to good... It is 
+ There are already 2 other bolt in upgrades form the D-35 (reg XJ D-44, XJ 8.25) there's not point in waiting the time with somthing like a WJ 44

WJ version doesn't have an aluminum center section like the ZJ but is still c-clipped and almost no aftermarket support. And like stated above 5x5 bolt pattern.
