Upgrade battery cables and alternator cable and then get a higher output alternator.

Not sure what year you got, but here's something that might help.

EBay is a good place to get a high output alt.
I got my 230 amp alt lifetime warranty for $250 shipped

I wonder where I can get this "welding cable" because I'm sure it would be cheaper than $70 to make my own

Its not the cable that makes the cost, its the tools required.

He mentioned something about it just the other day.

Personally, I think I'd get some zero gauge wiring kit for a subwoofer and cut it to length. The higher the quality of the copper the faster it passes the current, right?

As far as alternator goes, the sky is the limit. O'Reilly's has 100 amp alts for 84+core, I just got a custom made 105 amp for 86.(no core charge, and a commercial customer where I work, so keeping it in the family.) But I'm not running a winch, just HID's, and some decent sounds. And there's always the mean green line of products. Perhaps a dry cell battery would also pass current faster than a conventional battery can, especially after a year or two of use breeds corrosion.

Well I have a friend in the car audio business that has all the tools I need. I think I'm just gonna make some out of 4ga car audio cable. Also he said if I upgrade to a better battery that should help. My battery now is a fairly abused interstate that's been dead a lot. Could a battery help my problem before i re wire it all?

Yes, but you'll beat the new battery,to a premature death. Save yourself some long run money and do it all at once. Get a dual purpose dry cell battery. High CCA, and still some reserve capacity. Some people will say yellow top optima. I'm not a fan of Optima, personally, so I'd tell you to go somewhere and ask for their best equivalent. I work at Batteries Plus, and we have a good house brand, but you'd have to get a group 34, which would work just fine, it's what I've got in my XJ, or Odyssey has a group 58, but that's gonna be a real pretty penny.

Sounds almost like you want to take the cheap easy route.

This^^^^
If you ask on a forum you will get told the right way to do it by a few people.
If you choose to do it a different way it's your own fault when it doesn't work.

Just remember winches pull 200+ amps when in full pull.
