What brand and model of winch are you running and what CCA is your battery rated at? Most winches recommend at least 650 CCA, some more. I have a 1000 CCA and a Warn and haven't had any issues. Some of the cheaper winches and permanant magnet versions pull a ton of amps.

I've got a Redtop and a Warn 9000 and I've never noticed a problem. You are supposed to rev it up while using the winch as the alt doesn't charge well at idle, but it still shouldn't have drained it that badly that quickly. Mine is a Limited, so it does have a 100 amp alt stock.

I have an xrc 8 as well my battery is a 950 CCA with the stock alternator and have never had a problem. Maybe you should have your alternator and battery checked to make sure they are good and not weak.

Your battery doesn't have the recommended minimum cca to run a winch, but it should have ran it longer than it sounds like it did. One thing I've found that lots of guys forget is that if their battery posts aren't clean and tight they will not keep the battery fully charged, also they don't transmit as many amps as they could.

weird...I have a POS autozone battery, prolly like 650CCA and I used my winch like 8 times last sunday (also for the first time ever as I just got it too!)
I did not rev the engine any of the times either, I was standing outside. I used it hard too, and for a long time, almost one winching after another.
