4.56:1 motive gears for my 1989 xj 4.0L automatic D30 and D35

My front axle is "High pinion"?
Rear carrier is an extra $250
Front carrier is under $100

Are you sure you have a d35 rear, if so. Find a 8.25 out of Cherokee and swap that in.

Dana 35 rear. Compared cover with axle info sticky in OEM forum and the U bolts are for smaller size axle tube.

In the notes from rough country;
" Dana 30 with stock gear ratio of 3.72 or numerically lower require Part # 706008X - Sold separately / Available below.
Dana 35 with stock gear ratio of 3.54 or numerically lower without ABS require Part # 75054X - Sold separately"

This is the front axle tag. The rear tag was broken and missing.
Can this be confirmed 3.55 ratio from what is legible?

I am positive you need a new front carrier. And pretty sure you need a rear as well. But I'm telling you, find a 8.25 out of a Cherokee and swap it in. It will be a much better choice. You can find them around $100 in my area. And you won't need a new carrier for it. So that is already $150 cheaper. Then sell your 35 for $50. You will have a stronger axle, for less money.

He is correct get the 8.25 not only stronger but better axles as well check first but most are 29 spline.

I bought a new carrier for my HPD30 going from 3.55 to 4.56 also but installing Detroit Lockers I may not need it, if not I would make you a good deal on it.

Really I think there were more 27 spline 8.25's made.(27 is still better than a d35) but if at all possible, get a 29 spline. Any 8.25 from a 97+ xj will be 29 spline.

X2.. The D30 and D35 both require a different carrier if you are changing gears to a higher ratio.

EDIT: Actually you don't to swap carriers in the rear. It is a 3.54-UP case. So it should take the taller gear.

The stock 8.25 carrier will fit all R&P sizes.

I would spend the extra ~$100 and pickup a 8.25 as well. The D35 will not take abuse. You will be rebuilding it quite often. The Super D35 kit to beef it up is a waste of money. You can swap an 8.25 for a lot cheaper and still have a stronger rear end.
