Wierd pop?
ok so I have no idea what is causing this. it happens when my rear driverside drops. I've tried everything I can think on but I don't know what it is. has anyone had any problems like this before of know what it might be. i'm stumped
this is what i've done to correct it but with no luck
-BPE's
-Shackle Relocation brackets.
- checked to make sure all shock bolts are remaining tight.
-lubed everything back there.

hmmmm, need more info. when you say it happens when the driveshaft drops, you mean, like when your driving through a dip and it pops when the body lifts? or going slow crawling with the rear drooping it pops the whole tome its dropped? does it only pop once when it drops or continue to do it like the yoke is rubbing or something like that?

so only the drivers side? and again, at speed or just as long as its hanging low? have you checked the spring bushings. I know you did the shackle relocation brackets so I assume the rear bushings are good but what about the front?

It sounds like you are either overextending your shock on that side with the extra droop from the relocation brackets or the eye is hitting the shock mount. Remember, you get 2 different travel distances out of the rear shocks on an XJ. Less on the drivers side because it has further distance to travel just to mount up to the axle. If you have the correct shocks back there then you have another problem. Droop the axle as far as you can. Get out and see what is touching. This is my rear drivers shock sitting at 4.5 inches of lift with only extended shackles and the rear wasn't shimmed yet. This is not flexed and you can see how close the "eye" is to hitting at the corners.

Yeah it only happens when the driverside drops. it happens when i'm driving and go through something that makes the rear flex. if both wheels hit at the same time then nothing happens. I haven't really checked the front bushing on that leaf cause they were brand new.
I'm currently using the RC 2.2 performance shocks that are intended for 4.5-6.5 and i run a 4.5 lift. I'm not sure how that would cause a pop. I'll have to get it on a ramp or something to get it to max out the drop.

I went round and round for days on shock issues with these lifts. RC 2.2's are infact "valved" correctly for up to 6.5 inch lift. But the extension travel is too short for that lift for what you want to do. Remove the nut from the drivers side shock mounting stud then jack the Jeep up from the front leaf spring bracket on the drivers side until the tire is off the ground and see if the axle goes further than the shock will allow. This will tell you if the shocks are too short. I had to extend both sides to get proper measurements for my shocks.

I'll try that but I think I almost maxed out my rear flex last weekend. I know this is on the opposite side then my problem but I think the shocks can travel quite a bit. I'll give your idea a shot though.

its not the shock from what you describe. has it done it since the lift? mine does something similar and its the spring bushings.
if it has just started recently I would recheck bushings. if its been doing it since the install than obviously not.
you may just have to get that side to droop and check for part interference etc.

Good luck bro. I hope you find the problem. Nice XJ btw.
I'm also wondering since the leaf spring bolts are to be torqued while the Jeep is on the ground, that the bushings are binding from the extra travel as well. Just more suggestions for ya. Sucks when you can't find an obvious problem.
How are you liking those relocation brackets btw?

I have a similar sound in my ZJ and the spring is hitting the bump stop mount. I have checked and clocked the spring diff. and nothing. Its something to consider..
