Why are drivelines so weak, what is heavy duty? Clone steering brace.
My rear drive line is bent so ive been researching what to do. Ive also cut the yokes off the 2 1/2" tube. Its 14gauge or .077. Adams extreme is .083 but has the same 2 3/8" id so im assuming i haven't accurately measured.
adams warranties against welds failing and claims no failures but ill assume there's bent dented failures
Adam's also has a 2"x.120 option but won't exceed 36" length
I donot expect .083 to support vehichle weight and my mind doesn't consider .120 much off a upgrade.
Im close to pulling the trigger on a jb super short sye. And also looking into some .25 wall dom options. Ive had good results fabbing drivelines myself and having the local driveline shop verify they are true.
I havent researched woods but assume ill find the same there Rant over.
Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system
Check Tom Woods. I have two of his shafts on my XJ, and they claim you can jack up the Jeep on the driveline. After hefting them, I believe it. I bounced the front one off something hard, ruined the clamp and rubber, but the driveline was otherwise unaffected
Woods only offering for us is 2x.120 i do think this is stronger than 2 1/2x .083
A skid plate is a definite option. I wonder about a 1.25 heim mounted on a crossmember at tcase and skid plate a tube cut in half bolted solid at the pinion. Dammit it has to move in and out.
Here's my first attempt. Free 2.5schd40 pipe. Took an hour ish with a dial indicator. Got it pretty damn straight
so far no vibration on a quick test drive around the block.
Also made this about 2" longer my axle is moved back 1".
Its a pain checking run out at transfercase and pinion but seems to be well worth the effort. I had all kinds of stuff rattling now its kinda nice to drive. Looking forward to getting it up to 65 and seeing how it holds up on the trail.
